Semax
Semax (Met-Glu-His-Phe-Pro-Gly-Pro)
Overview
Semax is a synthetic peptide analog of ACTH(4-10), a fragment of adrenocorticotropic hormone. Developed at the Institute of Molecular Genetics of the Russian Academy of Sciences, it is approved in Russia for stroke recovery, cognitive disorders, and peptic ulcers. It is one of the most potent nootropic peptides available.
Mechanism of Action
Semax significantly upregulates BDNF and NGF expression in the hippocampus and cortex, promoting neuroplasticity and neurogenesis. It modulates serotonin and dopamine neurotransmitter systems, enhances cerebral blood flow, and has neuroprotective effects against oxidative stress. It does not affect cortisol levels despite being derived from ACTH.
