Selank
Selank (Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg-Pro-Gly-Pro)
Overview
Selank is a synthetic heptapeptide analog of the naturally occurring immunomodulatory peptide tuftsin. Developed at the Institute of Molecular Genetics of the Russian Academy of Sciences, it is approved in Russia as an anxiolytic and nootropic. It offers cognitive enhancement and anxiety reduction without sedation or addiction potential.
Mechanism of Action
Selank modulates the expression of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and influences the balance of Th1/Th2 cytokines. It inhibits enkephalinase enzymes, prolonging the activity of endogenous enkephalins (the body's natural anxiolytic peptides). It also modulates GABA neurotransmission, serotonin metabolism, and has documented effects on IL-6 and interferon expression.
