Thymosin Alpha 1
Thymalfasin (Thymosin Alpha 1)
Overview
Thymosin Alpha 1 is a 28-amino acid peptide naturally produced by the thymus gland that plays a critical role in immune system maturation and regulation. It is approved in over 35 countries for treatment of hepatitis B, hepatitis C, and as an immune adjuvant. Brand name Zadaxin.
Mechanism of Action
Thymosin Alpha 1 enhances T-cell maturation and differentiation, augments natural killer (NK) cell activity, increases dendritic cell function, and modulates cytokine production (IL-2, IFN-alpha, IFN-gamma). It promotes Th1 immunity while modulating excessive inflammatory responses. It also enhances vaccine response and has documented anti-tumor immune surveillance activity.
